The larch display in the fall is always a last minute surprise. As a general rule, the cultivated forms of Larix decidua and Larix kaempferi can be relied on to make a nice show of color in late October and early November, after the deciduous broadleaf trees have dropped their leaves. However, in the fall of 2008 the larch put on the most magnificent display of color we had ever seen. With the yellow and golden needles illuminated in the rich autumn light, we were treated to a brilliant show for a full two weeks.
