How sad and gloomy the winter garden would be without the coniferous plants. Whether starkly framed by the whiteness of a fresh snowfall or themselves draped in white powder, the conifers are the stalwart players in our winter landscape. Some weep and stretch in acrobatic forms while others point sharply upwards to the sky. Many of the low dwarfs become nearly invisible undulations in the snow blanket, reemerging from time to time as the snow settles and thaws between winter storms. The weeping larch stand leafless and graceful, showing off their cinnamon bark and occasional white mad-caps.
